What is alcoholism?
What is 'Alcoholism'?
Alcoholism is a strange word.
Everyone uses it, and is certain of what it means. However, no two
people seem to be able to agree on a clear definition. To some, an
alcoholic is a chronic inebriate living in the streets. To others, it
is anyone who has missed more than one day of work or school because of
over-drinking the night before. Members of the World Health
Organization had such a difficult time agreeing on a definition that
they abandoned the word completely in 1978 and replaced it with
'alcohol abuse and dependence'. The American Psychiatric Association
did the same two years later.-from the moderation management website.

Im not promoting the moderation management website. For heavy hard
drinkers I think it is much better if they cease drinking for a very
long time ( a decade is a nice round number) and devote their time to
finding God whom they certainly dont know except as the pain of
conscience.
The point Im making is that WHO and the American Psychiatric
Association have abandoned the word completely. The word alcoholic and alcoholism have no generally agreed upon definition.
Merriam Webster defines it as:
"continued excessive or compulsive use of alcoholic drinks"
However, Im sure there are many who would not agree that the
dictionary definiton is right
I prefer the word Drunk myself. And I dont have to define it. I know
one when I see one. You know them. They go out and get plasterd and its clear to anyone they have a problem. So if your a drunk, welcome to my website.
And if your not welcome also.
