Celebrate Recovery and the 12 steps

I have never attended a Celebrate Recovery meeting but I have had some conversations with people involved with it. I intend to check out a meeting in the near future in the town I currently live. However,I was talking this last week with a fellow who had been involved with it for awhile. He said at the local meeting of Celebrate Recovery they teach people they cannot recover from their addiction without working the 12 steps. I do not know if that is a teaching that is widespread throughout Celebrate Recovery. The person I talked to was a professing Christian and said he didn't agree with that teaching. If it is true that Celebrate Recovery teaches their is no recovery without working the 12 steps, then that is a non-scriptural teaching. It is clear from reading the Acts of the Apostles that many were converted to authentic Christianity thru belief, repentance, and baptism of the Holy Spirit. There was no working of the 12 steps.

There are 8 principles along the lines which Celebrate Recovery was created. These Principles are outlined in the beatitudes! Each STEP that they talk about working also has corresponding scripture to support it. It is nothing but Biblical.

I will have more to say on the subject after I have attended a Celebrate Recovery meeting.

However, I would point out at the day of Pentecost and when the Apostles were preaching, they were not preaching any 12 steps.

I have actually heard someone who was the head of a Celebrate Recovery at a local church group speak. She was repeating the same old nonsense that Alcoholics have a disease.

Baloney!!
