A & E Intervention
I just watched A&E intervention show and thought I would post my comments on it. Personally, I never had an intervention done on me (unless you consider having guns pointed at you by the police to make you stop an intervention)Anyway, if you watched the show you will notice not one word was said about what causes addiction. You just saw 2 people destroying their lives, hitting bottom, and then encouraged to go to "treatment". The viewer is not told what treatment consists of nor given any idea how successful it is. The two intervenee's are then shown post treatment staying clean. However, I want to point out a couple of facts. I dont know of any specific studies of the success rates of people who underwent intervention but we can look at some other success statistic. For intervenous drug users the success rate is less than 20% and there is no reason to think it isany higher for intervenee's. Here is a link to a story of success rates:http://alcoholism.about.com/cs/drugs/a/blnida031227.htmThere is a high success rate of getting people into treatment (92%) according to some websites:http://www.addictionintervention.com/intervention/success_rates.aspBut that is not the same thing as long term success rates which are dismal as I have pointed out.The "treatment industry" as a whole does not understand addiction nor what to do about it.They are the blind leaders of the blind. They are so mixed up they think addiction is a "disease".http://Christianrecovery.blogspot.com
