Demonic Possession and Addiction

The simple truth is that alcoholism and drug addiction are demonic possesion. Something that you will not find talked about in Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous.

If you do hear it talked about, usually it is like this "Back in the Dark Ages people used to believe drunks were possessed".

Driug and Alcohol treatment centers don't talk about it either because they don't understand it.

A decade or so ago, Malachai Martin, advisor to three Popes, touched on demonic possession a nd addiction, saying that often the lapse into addiction was a result of demonic influences. It is worth listening too.

Proof of Heaven -Book review

Although I generally don't do book reviews on this site, I thought I would give you my impression of this book by Eben Alexander, M.D. A friend of mine happened to leave it lying on a a chair and I picked it up to scan.

First of all, I didn't read it in its entirety, but I did scan and read a lot of it for 30-45 minutes.

Mr.Alexander would have us believe he actually visited  "Heaven", and came back to tell us about it.

I actually do believe Paradise or Heaven exists. Jesus Christ told the thief on the cross that "You will be with me this day in Paradise". So it is not that I don't believe in Heaven, but I saw some big red flags in this book.

The main one was Mr. Alexander preaching about "Unconditional Love" as a result of his experience.
For example, here is one excerpt:

"If I had to boil this entire message down to one sentence, it would run this way: You are loved......
In its purest and most powerful form, this love is not jealous or selfish, but unconditional"

*********************************************************
There it is there, He is preaching that God's love for us is unconditional. That is a variation of the "God loves you the way you are theme".

Jesus himself said "But if you forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses""

That doesn't sound like God has unconditional love to me.

What Mr. Alexander is preaching does not square up to the teaching of  Jesus Christ. That fact  casts doubt on his entire experience..

Alanon and Christianity

I thought I would post a little bit about my experience with Alanon. Although I am intimately familiar with Alcoholics Anonymous and its teaching and literature, my experience with Alanon had been confined to one meeting in 30 years. However, recently, I attended a few meetings with a friend.

The meeting was in a small town in the Pacific Northwest and it was a discussion and reading group which read out of the book  "Courage to Change".

I am sure Alanon does help some people to a certain extent but does what they teach square up with scripture tells us about Alcoholism?

No, it does not.  During their reading their were references to the "Disease of Alcoholism" which is what AA teaches and what is not true. And it is no small point. And it shows a lack of understanding about the nature of alcoholism.

Christian scripture makes it abundantly clear that we are engaged in a spiritual war here on earth. As the Christian Apostle Paul said:

King James Bible (Cambridge Ed.)
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Alcoholism is a spiritual illness, but not a disease. Most people in AA do not understand that, and that teaching bleeds over into Alanon.

The late Dr. Malachai Martin, a Christian Exorcist and an advisor to several Popes had this to say regarding Alcoholism:

“Possession can occur as a result of drug or alcohol addiction. It opens a doorway to the soul .The will becomes extremely weak  due to its desire for a drink or drugs. This weakness and compulsion for addictive chemicals allows evil spirits an avenue by which they may enter a person.” LINK

The idea that the Alcoholic is possessed by an evil spirit is not very welcome in AA, and , I suspect, it would not be very welcome in Alanon either, even though that is the Truth.

Stanton Peele on the Disease of Alcoholism

I don't agree with Mr. Peele about everything, but he is right that Alcoholism (and drug addiction) are not and have never been diseases.
