It's over the news and blogs reporting the death of Amy Winehouse
Huffington Post has an article here:
Amy Winehouse DeadI never met and don't know a lot about Amy Winehouse except that she died about the same age I stopped using heroin. And ,of course, I know about the song "Rehab". In case you don't here is what Wikipedia has to say about it:
"Rehab" is a song by Amy Winehouse from her second studio album, Back to Black. Written by Winehouse and produced by Mark Ronson, it was released as the album's lead single in the United Kingdom on 23 October 2006. The lyrics are autobiographical, describing a protagonist's drinking habits and refusal to enter rehabilitation clinics.
The song received widespread critical acclaim and enjoyed commercial success in Winehouse's native England and abroad. The tune won the 2007 Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary Song. "Rehab" won three Grammy Awards in 2008, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance."
When I heard the song rehab, I did not like the glorifying and celebration of what is basically a degenerate life style. I know free speech and all that.
But may I suggest that those awarding grammy's and producing such songs bear some responsibility for her untimely death. And probably the deaths of others too.
The Music Industry has been sick for a long time. The list of songs portraying drug use in a favorable light is lengthy.
May I politely suggest those making royalties off her songs, put some of the profits into helping young people with drug problems.
