Compassion for Patrick Kennedy

I sat down and started to write this piece, and then looked on the blogosphere. Remember when you were a kid and you piled on somebody. It felt a little like that.

************************************************************************
Ok, I admit it. I’ve been busted for being driving under the influence before. It happened January 8, 1969. But before I tell you what happened lets look at how Patrick Kennedy was treated.

“The Hill” reported the following:.

“According to two knowledgeable sources, two sergeants responded to the accident, and after reviewing the incident with the watch commander, dismissed the rank-and-file officers. The responding officers were not permitted to investigate the accident or conduct a field-sobriety test. The sergeants then drove Kennedy home.”

Well, that’s not so unusual is it? After all , many thousand of American are arrested for drunk driving every year. That’s how they are all treated, isn’t it?

I do have to admit that the fact that there is a difference between Kennedys Signature at the time of his traffic stop

and Kennedy’s Normal Signature on a Congessional Document

But, hey, lets not make to big a deal of that. He had just been traumautized in an auto accident.

***********************************************************************

And then I stopped writing. The sarcasm didn’t feel right. I remembered Rush Limbaughs pain pill addiction I remember George Bush being stopped for “driving under he influence” years ago.I rembered my own 14 year struggle with addiction.

Im as Conservative as anyone but do we have to politicize everything?

I think Kennedy ought to resign as a Congressman. But I don’t think hes the only one. Im sure theres a few Repubicans who have more than a few too many sometimes, and some secret pill popers. We don’t need drunks or pill addicts as Congressman.
Hey, how about drug testing for Congressman? I like it!

But I also think we can have a little compassion for someone with addiction problems. Some of the political stuff going around is just downright cruel.
