Addiction Memoirs

Here are some reviews of a few addiction memoirs:

1) Etta James, "Rage to Survive"

Etta's book is interesting to me since I knew Etta personally. It does give an accurate view of the Synanon Clone program known as the Tarzana Family. However, I don't think Etta ever really got down to the root of her problems.

2) James Frey, " A Million Little Pieces".

I wrote on this one before here Actually, it was a fun read but needs to be viewed as a work of fiction.

3) Brian Morris, "Chased by a Dragon,Caught by the Lamb"

I liked this book Brian takes us from being busted and thru his conversion to Christianity. You
can read a sample chapter here

4) Ted Adamson, "Up From Down"

I was priveledged to read an advance copy of this new book. It is powerful. You can find out
more at this link It is available as a low cost e-book

I will be having more to say about Addiction memoirs in the future

Montana Meth ads

Montana Meth ads decreasing meth use

Well, if you want to know what I think here it is.

It may have an impact on kids who have not yet started using and that would account for lower rates of meth use. I doubt very much that it would much, if any, effect on people who are already using; they will just laugh at the ads.

I would be curious to see how other drug rates have been impacted. I suspect marijuana use etc. is still rampant, and the way addiction works is gradually. People who are into it gradually get deeper into it. They may be smoking dope today but 10 years from now they will be doing coke or heroin or whatever.

You just aren’t going to address the problem as long as you don’t address the root causes. As long as kids have bad parents whom they hate, they are going to need something to escape the pain.

But I am not opposed to the ads, but they aren't really going to solve the problem.

My two cents.
